Expressiones is very proud to invite you to an art opening by the current artist in residence from Honduras, Andres Mejia. He is the first artist to come to US as part of a partnership between Expressiones and Instituto Hondureño de Cultura Interamericana. (IHCI)
My current work is a reflection on the collaborative spirit of girls and boys in a rural environment where the division of labor, study, and play does not exist, giving them a sense of responsibility, hope, and nobility in the face of adversity of the life.
To express this concept, I resort to the integration of figuration and abstraction, as stylistic resources that allow me to interpret with simplicity and categorically similar situations. The quality of language, in turn, depends on the materials and
procedures applied. In my case, I use sanguine and acrylic, the first to solve the figures, and the second, the background, looking for that in both cases, the result is consistent.
The antecedent of this production goes back to 2017 when I began to explore with more awareness and craft the modern theme. This line of research covers some of my pending projects for this year, especially the exhibition "Unique prizes of the biennials of the IHCI 1963-2018". Andres Mejia
