New London Harbor School students have had the incredible experience with working with visiting artists from Central and South America through the local cultural arts center, Expressiones, for the past few years. These visiting artists have allowed students to make connections to new cultures, classroom curriculum and their fellow peers in the art room. By the end of the visit, Harbor students have a new respect for the art making process of creating, reflecting and presenting their work. Harbor School looks forward to working with new visiting artists, as their knowledge, talent and dedication have such a positive influence on our students.

The chi ldren from The Center: A Drop-In Community Learning and Resource Center, Inc. have greatly befitted from their experiences with the artists from Expressiones.
The children have come to learn and value that Art is a process and not just the product. They have gained a wealth of knowledge; about different forms of art, the materials that an artist uses, the different types of art mediums, what are the elements of art and different styles of art. What impressed and touch me the most was the diversity of the artist. Artist from all over the world. Many of the children worked with artists who spoke their native tongues and shared art from their countries.
Math and Art went hand in hand when our children designed their own chess board and chess pieces. Over the years, Expression es has brought our children to the local Florence Griswold Museum and The Museum in New York City.
During the Summer, weekly visit to their art gallery was something the children looked forward to. Two different groups were involved, and their visits were culminated with an art show. During the school year weekly visit continue for our school-age children.
In addition to their "master pieces" displayed in the center, the families enjoy having the children's personal art work displayed in their homes.
