“MicroMacro 2021” Expressiones is very proud to launch, once again, an exhibit by Peruvian Artist in Residence Ramon Ostoloza. His work, in constant evolution and transformation, emerges to surprise the viewer in all instances. It doesn’t evoke a tangible reality, but a constant question of the nature and origin of the idea, questioning those existential concepts behind the human being, deep in meaning as it would be in an extention of philosophy.
Artist's Statement:
Before I arrived to New London, I had a very clear idea of the work I was going to do here; a series of masks that started to design 2 years ago on my previous residency.
But, as soon as I settled in this familiar space, that work seemed too far away, the questions that drove me to imagine them suddenly vanished, but a different set pieces began to take shape. Pieces that are part of a universe that gets out of scale in size and time. Images of living environments, that wonder the land. Each different in appearance, but related to the same set of questions.
This show starts my exploration into a universe without scale or timeframe other than what you see and can create with your own mind. Hope you enjoy the beginning of this stay.
Ramon Ostolaza
Bio:
Born in Lima in 1966, Ramon is exploring, as a self taught artist, the possibilities of cardboard and paper as a media for his work. Masks, drawings and costumes are his way to question our relation with our environment.
He’s been active on exhibitions, artist in residence programs and workshops since 2016, but his work spans over 30 years working with different materials and media.
His first solo exhibition was on 2019, a few months before the COVID-19 Pandemic was declared, and this new exhibition is going to be his second one.
Creatures will emerge, from his mind and you are invited to explore them and answer the questions that they may present to your unique point of view.
